Ferrari Brings 8 Generations Of Its Mid-Engine V8 Supercar To London

Ferrari has been building supercars for ages with one of its greatest lineups being the mid-engine V8 models that recently came together for a quick photoshoot in London for the UK launch of the new 488 GTB.
<--more-->
Technically, Ferrari replaced their V6-powered Dino in 1975 with the first V8 model, the 308 (also offered with a 2.0-liter V8 engine named the 208), which lasted for a decade when it was replaced by the 328 in 1985. Four years later, Ferrari introduced the more successful 348 with the Testarossa-like cheese graters before replacing it with the evolved F355 in 1994.

From 1999 to 2005, Ferrari offered the 360 Modena and from 2004 to 2009 (the overlaps you see here are due to the roadster models being replaced later on), the F430, itself replaced by the F458 Italia that now hands over the torch to the new 488 GTB.

Powered by a new 3.9-liter turbocharged V8 that pumps out 670PS (661hp) at 8,000 rpm and 760Nm (560lb-ft) of torque, the 488 promises some impressive figures including a 0-200 km/h (124mph) run in 8.3 seconds and a lap around the Fiorano track in just 1:23 minutes.

Take a look at the gallery below and tell us which one is your favorite mid-engine Ferrari V8 (sans the higher-end F40, of course).

SEM DX7 Is A Pininfarina-Designed SUV For China

Meet “the first Chinese SUV with an Italian touch,” as Pininfarina describes the SEM DX7 unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show. Designed by the Italian styling powerhouse, the DX7 is an SUV built by Chinese carmaker South East Motor, also known as Soueast or SEM.
<--more-->
The DX7 SUV is a different species from most Chinese-designed SUVs. “With 85 years of history, Pininfarina is the key partner for SEM enabling them to create a new strong brand identity through high-value aesthetic projects like the DX7. Working together with the SEM team we created a bold design language, which is central to communicate the uniqueness of a vehicle that stands out from the competition,” said Pininfarina’s CEO Silvio Pietro Angori.

Pininfarina started collaborating with SEM in 2012, but their first major project is the DX7 SUV. Designed according to Chinese customers’ preferences, the DX7 features sculptural and muscular surfaces with wide convex areas. The sculpted shapes of the bonnet and bumper also underline the strength of the car, while the front grille and headlights are connected to emphasize its width.

Inside, the DX7’s dashboard is splitted into two major elements which feature different colors and materials. The HMI area is integrating all the functions, monitors, and vents in a coherent form, while the instrument cluster is highlighted by the three-dimensional “binoculars” that emerge from the aluminum strip.

The DX7’s dimensions rank it in the compact SUV segment. It’s 4,537mm long, 1900mm wide, and 1700mm tall, with a 2700mm wheelbase. Engine options include 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol units.

Ferrari Boss Had SF15-T Designed to Suit Kimi Raikkonen's Driving Style

Last season, Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen finished the year 12th in the Driver Standings, with a total of 55 points. This season, after just 4 races, he has already racked up 42 points.
<--more-->
You don't have to do too much research in order to find that Raikkonen had an abysmal season in 2014. Naturally, he wasn't the only driver that underachieved, but where his ex-teammate Fernando Alonso managed to split the two Williams cars in the standings, Kimi couldn't even outscore the likes of Force India.

Now, the script has indeed flipped and Ferrari have their "game face" on, looking to challenge Mercedes for the title.

New team principal Maurizio Arrivabene may be new at his job, but it seem that he's very good at it. One of this first major decisions came late last year when he told his design team that he'd like more of the weight transferred to the front.

"I remember it was 10th or 12th December, I was speaking to [chief designer Simone] Resta and Rory [Byrne] and we were watching a picture of the car," said Arrivabene. "I asked what can you do to transfer weight a bit more to the front? Because I said Kimi likes to feel the car this way and Sebastian [Vettel] is more or less the same."

Raikkonen was also known to have preferred a light but precise steering feel, however, the reason why he likes a front-heavy setup is because he tends to turn faster into a corner, rotate slower than other drivers, and get on the power a bit later/smoother. It makes for a clean exit, with minimal oversteer, if any.

Alonso was pretty much the exact opposite and last year's car was tailored more to his style.

This year, the team worked day and night in order to grant Arrivabene his wish and provide both of his drivers, but especially Raikkonen, with a machine capable of restarting his career.

So far, so good.
