New Special Edition Holden Barina 'X' Out to Prove a Point

|

At first glance, you may think that downsizing doesn't really make sense in the land 'Down Under', where people love their 4x4s and powerful V8 engines. But in recent years, the trend has been changing quite a lot.

Cars such as the Mazda3, Toyota Corolla and even the Mazda2 super-mini have been extremely successful in Australia in terms of sales and popularity, so it definitely makes sense for Holden to give the Barina line-up a boost with a new special edition model.

It's called the Barina 'X' and you may know it as the Chevrolet Sonic or the Aveo, depending on where you live. The 'X' is actually based on the popular Barina 'CD' and boasts over $2,500 (AUD) worth of features for only $1,250.

However, customers will have to hurry in order to snag one of the 700 models that have been scheduled for production this year. We might as well call it a "Limited Edition".

The Barina 'X' comes with Holden's award-winning MyLink infotainment system, a factory-fitted electric sunroof, front fog lamps and 16" gunmetal gray alloy wheels - which are a nice touch.

Overall, this is a good looking small car and we can understand why it's been so successful. Plus, the 1.6 liter 114 HP power unit is quite decent too for a car that weighs just a little over 1,100 kg.

The special edition 'X' model will go on sale in late April and will only be available in a 5-door format.
