Jay Leno Drives 1948 Davis Divan, Americas Streamlined 3-Wheeler

|

The Davis Motorcar Company only ever made up to 17 vehicles, but the model that they did produce was rather unique. Its layout was similar tot that of a Reliant Robin three-wheeler, with one wheel at the front and two at the back.

This was obviously a setup not known for its stability, but in the Davis Divan, built in 1948, was much wider than the Reliant and therefor harder to tip over. The car wasn’t actually finished, and its engineering solutions are not fully flushed out – there are no air inlet at the front and the engine looks really prone to overheating.

Jay Leno got behind the wheel of the last one in existence, and he actually enjoys the experience, even if it doesn't work out perfectly in the end... The car he drives is not restored, and it’s running a bit roughly, but it’s part of the authentic experience and its charm, and it will eventually reach its peak condition again as it's being restored for/by the Petersen automotive museum.
